John Tesh shares emotional cancer update after being told he had only 18 months to live

When John Tesh was told he might have only 18 months to live, the words felt less like medical guidance and more like a final verdict. Diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer that doctors described as rare and aggressive, he suddenly found himself facing a future filled with uncertainty. Treatments helped slow the disease, but the reassurance most patients hope for—remission—never came.
Instead, his doctors used a strategy known as “pulsing” the treatment: pausing therapy to let the cancer become more active, then attacking it again. The cycle meant that cancer was never completely gone, only managed. Over time, living with the disease became part of his daily reality rather than a battle with a clear finish line.
Throughout the ordeal, his wife, actress Connie Sellecca, became his strongest advocate. Refusing to accept the bleak outlook, she searched for other possibilities when conventional options seemed exhausted. Reaching out to longtime connections eventually led them to specialists at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where doctors had deeper experience with Tesh’s unusual diagnosis.
Today, Tesh often says he feels fortunate to still be here. His condition is considered stable, and he credits Connie’s determination for helping him reach treatments that made a difference. After years of uncertainty, he approaches life with a deep sense of gratitude, viewing every new day as a gift.
