Just days ago, a tragic accident on Rodovia do Sol left a community devastated and grieving. What began as a routine roadside stop quickly turned into a fatal incident when a young couple, pulled over to deal with a flat tire, were struck by a fast-moving vehicle.
Military Police were called to the scene and arrived to find a chaotic and distressing situation. The couple had been traveling in a Chevrolet Cruze, while the vehicle that hit them was identified as a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck.
According to initial reports from authorities, the driver of the S10 appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers noted visible signs of intoxication, raising serious concerns about his condition at the time of the crash. He was later taken into police custody as the investigation began.
By the time law enforcement arrived, emergency responders from the Fire Department were already present, working urgently to assist the injured victims. Three people who had been inside the Cruze were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Among them was the brother of a young woman named Ingrid, who was also injured in the collision.
One troubling detail emerged early on—the driver of the S10 was no longer at the crash site when emergency teams first arrived.
Victims and Devastating Loss
Maicon, who had been driving the Cruze, along with another passenger, was rushed to the Emergency Care Unit in Marataízes. Despite medical efforts, Maicon suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures, and did not survive.
Ingrid, who had been taken to Menino Jesus Hospital, also later passed away from her injuries. The loss of both victims sent shockwaves through their families, friends, and the wider community, leaving behind profound sorrow.
Maicon’s uncle, Erivelto Ataliba, spoke about the moment he received the heartbreaking news.
“A friend called me and said he had something very sad to tell me—that my nephew had been in an accident and had died. I told him he must be joking. But he said, ‘I’m serious… I feel completely lost.’”
His words reflect the overwhelming grief and disbelief that often follows such sudden loss.
The Driver’s Condition and Whereabouts
Following the crash, authorities located the S10 driver at a hospital, where he was receiving medical attention. He initially agreed to take a breathalyzer test, but was unable to complete it, claiming he was not physically able to do so.
Even without the test, medical staff confirmed that he showed clear signs of intoxication. He remained under police supervision while receiving treatment.
Ongoing Investigation
The Civil Police have opened an official investigation into the incident. Maicon’s body was transferred to the Legal Medical Service in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim for further examination.
Authorities are continuing to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to the crash. Once the driver is discharged from the hospital, he is expected to be taken in for formal questioning.
As the investigation continues, the community is left mourning the loss of lives cut short far too soon—a painful reminder of the consequences that can arise from a single moment of negligence.
