Additionally, caffeine slightly increases metabolism and heat production in the body, which may contribute to weight management when combined with healthy lifestyle habits. In fact, for many individuals, coffee provides one of the largest daily sources of antioxidants—sometimes even exceeding the amount obtained from fruits and vegetables.
However, the benefits of coffee can quickly turn into drawbacks if consumption becomes excessive. Drinking too much caffeine may lead to restlessness, anxiety, a racing heartbeat, or digestive irritation, particularly when coffee is consumed on an empty stomach. High intake can also interfere with sleep, creating a cycle where fatigue leads to drinking even more coffee the next day.
